Edwin Lannie Morehart Sr. known by his family and friends as “Ed”, passed away at age 80 on February 1, 2026.
Edwin was born January 24, 1946, to the late Edward Clifton Morehart and Arthie Myrtle Red Morehart at home in Mabelvale, Arkansas, the youngest of twelve children. He graduated from Mabelvale High School in 1964, beginning a life defined by commitment, skill, and perseverance.
A master mechanic, Ed devoted over 40 years of his life to Budget Transmission, where his craftsmanship and knowledge became well known and deeply respected. His work was not just a profession; it was a point of pride and commitment.
Edwin was a hard worker through and through. Outside of work, he enjoyed family gatherings, as well as the excitement and tradition of the horse races at Oaklawn here in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
He is survived by his son Edwin Lannie Morehart Jr; his daughter Sarah Mathes; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren; as well as his sisters Benda (Roy) Shere, and Velma Carolyn (Joe) Marsh.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and 9 siblings. His sisters, Rose Evelyn, and Virgie Ann. His brothers, Lester Lee, Clifton Allen, Herbert Ray, Eugene Curtis, Willie May, Calvin Willis, and Wesley Hugh, as well as their spouses.
Edwin’s life was one of consistency and pride in a job well done. He will be remembered for his skillful hands, his dependable nature and the love he held for his family. His memory will live on in all who knew and loved him.
Family will welcome friends to celebrate Ed's life on Monday, February 9th at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home (1921 Main Street). Visitation will begin at 1:30pm with a funeral service following 2:30pm. Burial will be at Martin Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Coffman, Scottie York, Brian Gilbert, Kirk Hurt, Cody Cox, and Steven Combs.
