Elaine Louise Langlow Cockmon, born April 30, 1930, in Tacoma, Washington, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, at the age of 95 under the care of Hospice Home Care in Little Rock.
Growing up on the west coast in the Seattle/Tacoma area during World War II, Elaine had many stories related to life experiences as a child. Her family was surrounded by military bases, shipyards, and related activities such as food and other product rationings, blackouts, and taking cover during simulated air raids.
Elaine graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma and attended Western Washington College in Bellingham, WA. During her early career, she worked in Washington, DC for the State Department as a secretary in the Engineering Office of McChord AFB. In San Francisco, she worked for an overseas shipping line and later in the business office at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
While in San Francisco, she met Air Force Lieutenant Lou, and they were soon married after his discharge in August 1955. Later she embarked on the most important job of all which was raising six children and a husband, while still staying active in church and other civic activities. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
Decorating the home interior for the various seasons/holidays was a favorite activity of hers. This also included Razorback décor since she was an avid Hog fan. Elaine was also an avid reader and loved attending the library book fairs. She kept a good supply of books, was always sharing them and encouraging others to read. Elaine enjoyed attending musicals and concerts, and lastly, she always enjoyed attending all of her children and grandchildren’s school and sporting events, and other family activities.
Elaine was a member of Christ Little Rock Church and was very active there until the past few years. She was a member of LWML, Ladies Bible class, Sunday school class, and many other activities. She was also a charter member of Arkansas Down Syndrome Association Board and served many years in the important functions of the organization. In the early years of the Francis Allen School for Exceptional Children, she was active in the parent group. Elaine was a past member of the Pulaski County Home Extension Club and volunteered at the Arkansas Alzheimer’s Association, Salvation Army, and during tornado relief.
Many heartfelt thanks to the many friends, family and medical staff that have been so supportive of Elaine over the years. A special thank you to the wonderful, amazing staff at the Comfort Care Center at Hospice Home Care. You were all her angels, and we love you for that!
Elaine is survived by her husband of 70 years, Louie C. Cockmon Jr., 6 children: Janis Cockmon of Little Rock, Ronald Cockmon (Kathy) of Forrest City, Karen Brown of Sherwood, Greg Cockmon (Debbie) of Little Rock, Lisa Diggs (Bill) of Tulsa and Julia Cockmon of Little Rock; Grandchildren Leslie Cockmon, Amber and Michael Cockmon, Annie Brown, Mikayla, Ashton and Tristan Diggs; Two great-grandchildren Willow Alshareef and Haisley Brown Sutton, and many nieces and nephews.
