Ellen Johanne (Rasmussen) Ray, age 92 of Lexington, Texas passed away from this life on February 11, 2020 while residing at Highland Court Nursing Home in Marshall, Arkansas where she was close to her daughter.
Ellen was born in Bergen on October 27, 1927 and raised in Dumont, New Jersey to Axel and Matilda (Olsen) Rasmussen. She had eight siblingâs three sisters and five brothers.
After Ellen graduated high school and went to work she enjoyed traveling around to different places on the east coast with a group putting on shows for the wounded veterans of WWII to brighten their spirits. Her employer was opening offices in Austin, Texas and asked her if she would transfer. She was a wanderer and enjoyed traveling so off to Texas she went.
Ellen married James âJayâ William Ray on December 17, 1949. To this union 5 children was born.
She is preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, husband Jay, and 3 sons Alan, James and Douglas.
Survivors include daughter Marsha (Greg) of Marshall, Arkansas; son Jesse (Tammy) of Lexington, Texas and daughter in law Vicki Ray of Lovelady, Texas; 18 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
In Ellen's retirement years she loved to travel and went to many places around the globe. She lived a memorable life and left the entire family with many memories of her travels with several of us included on short excursions. She definitely leaves behind a legacy anyone would be proud of.
Graveside services will be held in Austin, Texas on Saturday March 7, 2020 under the direction of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home and cemetery with her oldest granddaughter Cassie giving the eulogy.
