Elmer Lee Shelton, born August 31, 1943, peacefully passed away on June 6, 2026. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a cherished member of his community, Elmer's life was marked by dedication, and service. He was preceded in death by his father, George Elmer Shelton, and mother, Margie Lee Meggs; his first wife, Diana M. Shelton whom he married on October 25, 1964; his brother, Earnest E. Smallwood; and his nephew, Greg McClard.
A proud graduate of Mountain Pine High School's class of 1961, Elmer Lee embarked on a journey that would see him serve his country with honor in the United States Navy. His commitment to duty extended into his civilian career where he excelled as a traffic manager for Pirelli Cable Corporation. Elmer's love for the outdoors was a significant part of his life; in his younger years, he deeply enjoyed fishing and hunting. His attention to detail was well known among colleagues and friends alike, a trait that was especially evident during road trips, where his unique approach to driving—either a complete stop or full throttle—and his precision timing of rest stops were all part of his personality.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Irma Shelton, whom he married on March 8, 2011; his sons, David Shelton and Mark Shelton; and his brothers, Randall Smallwood, Ricky Smallwood, and Jody Smallwood. He also leaves behind his sisters, Gaye Elaine Johnson and Maurita Joy McClard; as well as grandchildren, Vanessa Traylor, Dylan Shelton, Freeman Shelton, Brett Shelton, Avery Shelton, Mackenzie Shelton, and three great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy with love.
Elmer Lee's life was a testament to dedication, perseverance, and love of family. His spirited approach to life's journey and his meticulous nature will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. As we say goodbye, we honor a man who truly lived life on his own terms.
