Elmer Ray Story, 81, of Sherwood, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2024. He was born on July 30, 1942, in England, Arkansas to the late James B. Story and Nora L. Halcumb Story. Elmer led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and service to his country.
In Elmer's early childhood, his family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he later graduated from Little Rock High School in 1962, and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. His dedication to his military service was commendable and will always be remembered. Beyond his military career, Elmer cherished his family above all else. Elmer's love for his family was evident in everything he did. He always made time for them and created beautiful memories that will live on. With no children of his own, he took on the role of "Uncle" very seriously. He often would take his nieces and nephews out to eat and other activities; and was always telling a corny joke or three. Elmer was a loving uncle with a great sense of humor and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Joann Devon Story; his parents; his brother; and two sisters. He is survived by his three brothers James, Bill, and Johnny.
In addition to being a devoted family man, Elmer was an active member of his church. He was a devoted Christ follower, and his strong faith brought him comfort and served as a guiding light throughout his life.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation service for Elmer at Cornerstone Worship Center Pentecostal Church of God on February 5, 2024. The visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 PM. Following the funeral service, Elmer will be laid to rest at Brownsville Cemetery in Lonoke, Arkansas.
Elmer Story's passing leaves behind a void that cannot be filled. However, we take solace in the fact that he lived a life filled with love and touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. His memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will live on through the laughter and joy he brought into our lives.
