Emma Jean Hollon Hughes age 87 of Arkadelphia went to be with her Lord and Savior March 30, 2011. She was born May 8, 1923 to Floyd and Emma Rebecca Hollon of Arkadelphia. Jean was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church, graduated from Arkadelphia Public Schools and attended Ouachita Baptist College. Jean worked as a clerical bookkeeper and stenographer during World War II serving at Pine Bluff Arsenal, Camp Detrick, Maryland and Fort Benning, Georgia and was a certified aquatic instructor for the Arthritis Foundation with a Seal of Excellence Award for six years. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Hughes.
She is survived by one son, Robby Young and his wife Teresa of Benton, one daughter, Debra Newman and her husband Gary of Arkadelphia, five grandchildren, Hayden Newman, Heather Luchin and husband Keith, Aaron Newman and wife Melody, Jonathan Young and wife Jana, Yael Mangum and husband Ray, and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by on sister, Clara Lou Overton of Hot Springs.
Visitation will be 10 AM Saturday, April 2 at the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel followed by funeral services at 11 AM with Stan Parris officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Aaron Newman, Keith Luchin, Luke Owens, Ronnie Riggle, Roy Joe Williams, Richard Miller and Jim Phillips.
Jean's family expresses appreciation to Twin Rivers Health and Rehab and especially to the Twin Haven Unit for the excellent, compassionate care provided to our loved one.
