Ethel Broglen

Ethel Henderson Broglen, age 95, gained her angel wings on June 30, 2024, and has joined her husband Gene and her son Rick in Heaven. She was the 3rd of 6 children born to Worthy and Maxine Henderson. The family lived in Vernon, TX. until Ethel was 12 years old and then moved to Arkansas. She and Gene were married for 73 years, had 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Ethel graduated from Russell High School, and was named valedictorian of her class. She went on to attend Arkansas State Teachers College, attaining an associates degree, and then taught grade school in West Point, AR. After marrying Gene in 1950, they resided in Bald Knob, before moving to North Little Rock. They were faithful members of Berean Baptist Church, and active in the community with school and sports events.

Ethel's favorite names were Mom and Granny, but she was also known by many as "Miss Ethel" and "Shorty", as she stood only 4 feet 11 inches tall. She loved baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and her home was filled with anything and everything that had a red bird on it. That included pictures, pillows, cups, shirts, figurines, book marks, and even miniature tea sets. She was famous for her sugar cookies and gigantic cinnamon rolls, as well as being an expert seamstress and prolific at crochet.

Although she was small in stature, she had a huge personality, and liked to remind everyone that dynamite comes in small packages. She will be missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the Independent Seniors organization, and Briarwood Nursing and Rehab for the love and expert care shown to Ethel as she was coming to the end of her journey here on this earth.
