Frances Echols

Frances Benton Echols age 93 of Arkadelphia died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at The Pines Nursing Home in Hot Springs. She was the daughter of F.E. and Minnie Powell Benton. She was born September 7, 1918 at Chidester.

Frances was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. She was a member of the church for 64 years. She served on many church committees. Frances supervised the church nursery for many years. She also directed the college department training union.

Cooking for large groups of family and friends was among her favorite things to do. She also enjoyed playing the piano. She enjoyed politics. She worked hard for her favorite candidates. She was the youngest of seven children.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold G. Echols, son Wayne Echols, two sisters, Estelle Shankle Hardin and Mabel McCaskill, and four brothers, Ernest, L.T., Jay and Hubert Benton.


She is survived by a son, William Echols of Arkadelphia. Frances adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her granddaughters are Wendy Walker of Princeton, Texas and Dr. Rebecca Bond (Dr. Ken Bond) of Prague, OK. Her great grandchildren are Emily Gay and Alex Gay of Princeton, TX and Montrey Bond, Carlton Bond and Jonah Bond of Prague, OK.

A Memorial service will be 1 PM Saturday, March 10th in the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Private family burial will be in the Jones Cemetery in Amity.


The family would like to thank the staff of The Pines for their care of Frances. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Clark County or the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
