Frances Johnson

Frances L. Johnson, 92, of Sherwood, passed away September 5, 2017. She was born in Cabot, Arkansas on October 20, 1924 to Buford Huddleston and Nettie Shurley Huddleston. They later moved to Malvern where she graduated from Malvern High School in 1942. She was a member of Sherwood First United Methodist Church. She retired as an auditor from First Federal Savings and Loan in Little Rock.

Frances moved to Sherwood with her husband, Wilbur, and daughter in 1964 upon his retirement from the Air Force. During his 20 years of service, they were stationed in Little Rock, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Wichita Falls, San Antonio and Corpus Christi, Texas, Etain, France and Ramstein, Germany. They were able to travel extensively in Europe while living in France and Germany.
She enjoyed her flower gardens, growing beautiful iris, roses and daffodils which she shared with friends and family. She was involved in many organizations, serving various positions over the years. She was a past President and Woman of the Year of the Business Professional Women's Organization where she also served as Secretary and Treasurer for the state. She was also a member of the Business Women's Social Services Club. Frances was a Past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile, Mat-Ta-Nah Temple #136, where she also served in other positions. She was a Past Matron of the Sylvan Hills Order of the Eastern Star. She somehow managed to find time to volunteer at the Little Rock Air Force Base pharmacy every Monday for over 20 years, and was selected Volunteer of the Year more than once. She enjoyed working with the other volunteers and military personnel and seldom missed her day.

She and husband, Wilbur, were very active in the Shriners organization for many years where they, with their many friends, were involved with raising money for the Shriners hospital.

No matter where she was she would likely be found in the middle of the action, enjoying laughing and cutting up with those around her.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wilbur D. Johnson, and great-grandson, Nicholas John Ickler. She is survived by her daughter, Geri Sue Chartrand and husband, Elton, of Scott, Arkansas; granddaughter, DeAnne Slaughter and husband, Larry, of Durango, Colorado; grandson, Jason Chartrand of Edmond, Oklahoma; great-granddaughter, Andrea Suzanne Ickler of Durango; friend, Donald Ickler of Newport, Ohio; and Misty, her precious kitty cat.

Our many thanks go out to all the staff at Robinson Rehab and Nursing Home for their loving care.
