Frank Letzig, Jr.

Frank William Letzig, Jr., 94, of Little Rock, died October 27, 2020. Frank was born in Little Rock on November 19, 1925 to Frank William Letzig and Margaret Himstedt Letzig. Frank attended Little Rock public schools through the 10th grade and graduated from Little Rock Catholic High School in 1943. After graduation and following in the footsteps of his father, who served as a pilot during the First World War, Frank volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving as an Aviation Cadet. Frank completed his training as a flight navigator, primarily in the B-24 Liberator, just as World War II concluded.

Following the war, Frank attended Washington University in St. Louis, graduating with a BS in industrial engineering. Frank worked for much of his life as an engineer, holding professional certifications in Arkansas, Kentucky, Florida and Mississippi. Later in life, he attended and graduated from what was then known as the Little Rock Division of the University of Arkansas School of Law (now the UALR Bowen School of Law) and was admitted to the Arkansas Bar in 1975.

After graduating from college, Frank returned to Little Rock where he met and married the former Charlus Henderson on October 14, 1950. Frank and Charlus had three children: Susan Letzig (Bill) Roehrenbeck, Charles William (Lynda) Letzig and Diane Letzig (Chuck) McDaniel. Frank and Charlus were both active in the Catholic faith and were charter members of Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a Knight of the Grand Cross, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. After 59 years of marriage, Charlus passed away in 2010. On June 18, 2011 Frank married Betty Lee White Thornton, whom he had known since his days at Catholic High. Frank and Betty made their home in Little Rock until her death in 2017.

In addition to Charlus and Betty, Frank was preceded in death by his parents as well as his only sibling, Margaret Ellen Letzig (“Mel”) Kemp. Frank is survived by his three children, two stepsons, Scott (Becky) Thornton and Lance Thornton, both of Conway, Arkansas, as well as twelve grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren and a special niece, Ellen Kemp Rogers of Paragould, Arkansas.
