In Loving Memory of Gary Leon Hartley

June 28, 1938 – March 16, 2026

Gary Leon Hartley passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 16, 2026. Born on June 28, 1938, to Llewellyn Hunter Hartley and Nellie Mae Irvine Hartley, Gary lived a life defined by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a deep love for the outdoors.

After graduating high school, Gary proudly served four years in the United States Navy. During this time, he met the love of his life, Linda Ellen Hunt, at Tinker Air Force Base. They married and built a beautiful life together, welcoming two children: Elizabeth Ann (Scroggins) and Michael Leon Hartley.

Gary began his career with IBM Corporation in 1967, working in Sherman, Texas, before transferring to Natchitoches, Louisiana. He remained with IBM until his retirement in 1990.

Retirement allowed Gary to fully embrace his passion for the outdoors. He became an avid fisherman, winning several tournaments and ultimately fulfilling his dream of becoming a professional fisherman. He was also a dedicated hunter of game birds and later shared his expertise as a fishing guide on Toledo Bend Reservoir.

In 2018, Gary and Linda moved to Traskwood, Arkansas, where he built his barndominium home. There, he enjoyed gardening, fishing in his pond, and spending cherished time with his grandchildren.

Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. His steady presence, warm heart, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Left to treasure his memory are:

  • His loving wife, Linda Ellen Hartley
  • His daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Scroggins) , and her husband Gaddie Joe
  • His son, Michael Gary Hartley (Paula)
  • His brother, Daryle Hartley (Carla)
  • Grandchildren: Shannon (Tim Naylor), Shawn Scroggins (Tk), Hunter Scroggins, Jacob Scroggins (Courtney), Dylan, Leslie (Carson), Trevor (Kelsey), Tanner and
  • Great-grandchildren: Luke Joseph and Elizabeth Wren
  • And many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.

Gary’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless memories made on the water, in the woods, and at home.
