Gene Edward Turley Sr.

Listen to Obituary

Gene Edward Turley Sr., born May 23, 1937, passed away on October 24, 2026. He lived a long life marked by hard work, deep family ties, and a personality that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Gene graduated from Mabelvale High School and went on to serve his country in the Air Force, an accomplishment he held with great pride. He also worked as a brakeman on the Rock Island Railroad and became well known as the owner of Turley’s Service Station in Benton, Arkansas, which he ran for more than 50 years. His years of service, both to his country and through his work, reflected his dedication, perseverance, and strong sense of responsibility.

He was a funny man who loved to tell stories and was never afraid to share his opinions. Those qualities made him memorable to family and friends alike. He enjoyed hunting, working on cars, gardening, and keeping his yard. Some of the happiest family memories were made during the years he owned a farm in Clinton, where loved ones spent time hunting, camping, and four-wheeling together. Those times brought joy and created memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Gene was a dedicate member of both First Baptist Church in Bryant and Crystal Hill Baptist Church in Little Rock.  He was well loved and appreciated by both congregations.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Joann Negrette; his sons, Carl Turley and Kim, and Darryl Turley and Lisa; his daughter, Tonya Gautz and Carl; and his stepsons, Tim Watson and Glenda, Steven Watson and Brenda, and Michael Watson; his brother, Jerry Turley and Carolyn and his sister, Janis Edwards; He will be remembered with love by all of them, and by the many family members and friends whose lives were brightened by his humor, stories, and steady presence.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosanna Turley; his father and mother, Arthur Turley Sr. and Flossie Turley; his brother, Arthur Turley Jr.; his sister, Judy Hyder; and his brother, Larry Turley.

The family extends special thanks to Abby, Claire, and Janis at Elite Hospice for their tremendous care.
