George Bentley, 85, of North Little Rock, passed away on October 2, 2011. He
was born on October 1, 1926 to the late Verne Bentley and Vivian Summerville Bentley in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
George was a member of Levy Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was also a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. He worked as a news reporter for Fort Smith Times Record for 6 years, and for the Arkansas Gazette covering the Pulaski County Courthouse for 32 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII, and Korean Conflict.
George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois Ridpath Bentley of North Little Rock; 2 sons, Dr. Joe Bentley of Cleveland, Mississippi, and Paul Bentley (Kimberley) of Sherwood; 1 daughter, Phyllis Bentley of North Little Rock; 3 grandchildren, Davis, Jordan, and Taylor Bentley; 1 sister, Laverne Boone (Phelan) of Texarkana, Texas; 1 brother, John Bentley of California; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Levy Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street, 758-1170. Online obituary and guest registry at www.nlrfh.com.
