George D. Merriott

George D. Merriott, age 84, of Hot Springs, was welcomed home by his Lord while being surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 10, 2017. He was born on September 15, 1932, in Jessieville, the son of Floyd E. Merriott and Clara Jewell Young Merriott. On July 24, 1954, he was married to Dorthy L. Lowry. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Henry Merriott; his older brother, Melvin Merriott; and his sister, Dorothy Ragsdale. A U.S. Army veteran, George served in Korea, having over 26 years, both active and retired duty, obtaining the position as a Master Sergeant; and was a member of the Park Place Baptist Church. He was employed with the Garland County Sheriffs Department for over 15 years, and was an electrician with the original Atomic Bomb Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He was an avid sports fan, loving and enjoying all sports. In his younger years as a dad, he and Dorthy would take their son quail hunting, along with his brother, Melvin, and have so many fond memories of these trips. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorthy Merriott of Hot Springs; his son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Jan Merriott of Hot Springs; four grandchildren, Terry Ray Merriott, Kristi Merriott, Lisa Merriott and Amy Richardson and her husband, Kevin, all of Hot Springs; six great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Joyce Faye Merriott of Hot Springs; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 14, 2017, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hot Springs with Bro. Coy Sample officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honors Team. Pallbearers will be J. D. Fladung, Kevin Richardson, Grayson Langston, Kelly Timbs, Tony Timbs and John D. Grant. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren, Bro. Thurman Broughton, Bro. Jim Freeman and the nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice, 5th floor, CHI St. Vincent - Hot Springs.
