George Jenkins
George Richard "Dick" Jenkins, age 74, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2011. He was born on September 5th, 1936, to the late Lena and Richard Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Lyle Jenkins and son, Bruce Moore Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kay Jenkins; brother, Robert (Bert); sons Richard, Timothy and Christon; and ten grandchildren. He attended Little Rock public schools and later worked for 45 years at Little Rock's Democrat Printing and Lithographing. He was a life-long, dedicated member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities, including Chairman of the congregation.
His loves were his church, his wife of 53 years, his children, his grandchildren and his dog, Rosie. He also loved sports and competition. In his early years as a father he dedicated his time to coaching baseball, nurturing dozens of young men, teaching them valuable life lessons about sportsmanship, a strong work-ethic, and how to both win and lose graciously.
Dick was also very involved in music. Whether singing for Grace Lutheran's choir, the Arkansas Choral Society, or singing Hank Williams' songs with his sons, his beautiful voice was enjoyed by everyone around him.
In his later years he dedicated his leisure time to golf. An accomplished golfer himself for more than 40 years, he introduced his four sons to golf and helped them develop a love for the game. He was an avid fan of golf at all levels. For the better part of 30 years he helped run one of the most successful junior golf tournaments in Arkansas with the Paul Lewis family: the Bruce Jenkins Memorial Golf Tournament. He was also a long-time member, player and officer in the Central Arkansas Pro-Am, where he formed many life-long friendships and helped create and administer an annual Junior Scholarship Fund.
He will be remembered for his selflessness, competitiveness, humility, righteousness, his unyielding spirituality, and his genuine desire to conduct his life in a Christ-like manner.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 8 from 4-6 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Services will be held on Monday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Little Rock, officiated by Rev. James Walter. Memorials may be made to the Central Arkansas ProAm Scholarship Fund, #1 Village Way, Maumelle, AR 72113; Grace Lutheran Church, P.O.
