George Smith

George (Pete) William Smith age 80, of Arkadelphia passed away Monday, August 11, 2104 in Little Rock. He was born April 5, 1934 in Oil City, Louisiana to John and Belle Smith. Pete was a Baptist. He graduated from Spring Hill High School in Spring Hill, Louisiana and attended Centenary College on a music scholarship. After enlisting in the U. S. Navy for eight years, he continued his education earning a B. A. degree from in Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri.

Pete earned his Master's degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois. While at S.I.U., he taught for several colleges in the Edwardsville area. After graduation, he returned to Lathrop, Missouri, where he established and operated a pottery business on Fagin farm in Lathrop for many years. He semi-retired to Arkadelphia where he lived until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mozell Like and one brother, Johnny Smith.

Survivors include two sisters, Estelle Gilreath of Madill, Oklahoma, Rozell Shows of Shreveport, Louisiana; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 14th at Old Sarepta Cemetery in Sarepta, Louisiana. Burial will follow in Old Sarepta Cemetery.
