George Morgan Wilson, 73, of Austin, Arkansas, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012, of an unexpected accident doing what he loved most. He was born April 12, 1939 in Poteet, Texas, to Morgan and Margaret Wilson. He was the eldest of four sons (Rodney, Lanny and Nick).
He served in the Army for four years in the Quartermaster Corp. and the 82nd Airborne. George married Ellen Lee Lamb in 1962. They had been married for 49 ½ years at the time of her death in February 2012. He and Ellen lived in Texas City, Texas, El Paso, Texas, Fabens, Texas and Austin, Arkansas. George and Ellen had four children, Byron Daniel Wilson (deceased at four days old), Erin Colleen Jones and husband Jade, Deborah Christine Hawthorne and husband Matt, and Shilah Lauren Wilson. They had four grandkids, Ashleigh Jones, John Morgan Jones, Nicole Hawthorne and Lillian Hawthorne. George was also survived by a host of friends who shared the joy of riding their motorcycles on the open road.
George retired after forty-five years of driving truck. He received numerous safety awards and mileage accomplishments from both ABF Trucking and Roadrunner Trucking. He has been a member of the Teamster Horseman's Motorcycle Club and his title was "Sgt. at Arms". He raced motorcycles from the age of 16 until 30 years of age. During retirement, he enjoyed riding with the motorcycle club on all the back roads of Arkansas as well as traveling to/attending motorcycle racing events in Daytona and Indianapolis.
Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, Arkansas. Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Zapata Funeral Home, Matador, Texas. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at East Mound Cemetery in Matador.
