Geraldene E. Moore

Dr. Gem Moore passed into eternity on February 24, 2024.  She was born on 6-30-1938 to Geraldene McPheeter Moore, opera singer and Dr. Edgar D. Moore, prominent dentist in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Gem lived a life of love, adventure, and commitment to her personal relationship with Christ as her partner and savior.

Dr. Moore’s father hosted a religious broadcast for 45 years in Charlotte, NC.  As a result, their family home was a hub for many international missionaries and political notables.  Gem grew up traveling to distant lands to visit their friends and family and continued extensive travel throughout her life.  A   special opportunity Gem had was to hold a reception for Princess Beatrice of the Netherlands in Amsterdam. Princess Beatrice later became the Queen of the Netherlands.

Always a trailblazer for women’s rights, she continued her exploration journey. From childhood she knew she wanted to be in the medical field. She was accepted as the fourth woman at the University of North Carolina Dental School.   She completed two years and realized it was not for her.  She forged on to eventually find her niche as a PhD from a school founded in Switzerland and later bought out by Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne Florida.   True to her spirit and her heritage of Daniel Boone and Benjamin Franklin, she kept pushing west, doing multiple training opportunities in California and completing a third year in Community Mental Health at Berkeley, California before settling in Little Rock, Arkansas through another adventure and happenstance.  She conducted psychology practice using cutting edge techniques learning a variety of skills from business consulting to supervision training, and conducting training seminars in various cities.  She specialized in marital and individual counseling.

Always with an eye forward to the future, she followed the saying that a friend said to her, “Do what you love every day”.  She valued wit, intuition and continued her extensive training in order to help her clients learn to love themselves.

Born Geraldene Edwina Moore and called “babydoll” all her growing up life, she decided to claim the initials on her baby cup as her name to introduce herself in college.

Gem’s Celebration of Life service will be on March 21 (Thursday) at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church’s chapel at 10:00 am.   The church address is 1000 N Mississippi Street, Little Rock.
