Harold Hudson

Harold Booe Hudson, 87, born October 5, 1924, third son of Joseph Finas and Lois Booe Hudson, died in his home in Little Rock on Thursday, May 5, 2011.
Harold attended Little Rock schools and served in the U.S. Army Infantry in Europe during World War II. His battlefront assignments as a replacement troop included the infamous Battle of the Bulge. Following those experiences as an infantryman, he was retained in Europe as part of the military's "mop up" strategy, working primarily in Germany. Most of his gruesome war memories were held within until his mid-70's, when he began divulging remembered experiences of the prisoner/death camps for Holocaust victims. It became his compelling personal need to share these grim recollections as an effort to help prevent the repetition of that history. After his honorable discharge from military service he returned to Little Rock. Using his Army mustering-out pay he pioneered inland marine retail trade in central Arkansas, as owner and operator of what eventually became known as Hudson Marine Sales and Service in Little Rock.
Harold is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha Ward Hudson; two daughters, Judith Campbell Hudson and Joy Marlaine Hudson; two sons, James Harold Hudson and Jonathan Ward Hudson. Other survivors include grandchildren and extended family members, all of whom he loved very deeply. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, James Leroy Hudson and Joseph Finas Hudson and one grandchild.
There will be no services at this time. A private family memorial service and burial at Roselawn Memorial Park will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to perpetuate Harold's love of gardening by contributing to AUGER (Arkansas Urban Gardening Educational Resource), P.O. Box 166808, Little Rock, AR 72216, or specifically to the Dunbar Community Garden Project, 1800 S. Chester, Little Rock, AR 72206.
