H.R. (Randall) Sullivan of Hot Springs, formerly of Benton, passed away June 19, at the age of 78, from complications of a lengthy illness. Randall was born in Bauxite to Gene and Bonnie L. Sullivan who preceded him in death along with his sister, Kathy Gullion and nephew, Blake Gullion.
Left behind with great memories are his wife of 42 years, Regina Sullivan; sons: David Sullivan (Becky) and Matthew Sullivan (Kelley); Regina’s children: Kelly Fortner (Todd) and Kevin Sims (Alesa); 10 grandchildren: Garrett, Aubrey, Sawyer, Sutton, Brittany, Sarah, Rebekah, John, Cody, and Kyle; and 5 great-grandchildren. Randall also leaves behind 2 aunts: Elsie Hill and Betty Ford; uncle, Donald Ramsey; niece, Delaney; brother-in-law, Doug, and a very special cousin, Kenneth with whom he kept in touch.
Randall grew up in Benton and graduated from Benton High School in 1965, also being a member of the 1965 winning Panther’s football team. Randall went on to become a mechanical engineer working for Alcoa/Almatis for 47 years, eventually becoming their North American Engineering Manager.
Randall served in the Arkansas National Guard for 6 years.
Randall played the guitar and the mandolin and was a member of his Dad’s bluegrass band, The Midstate Ramblers.
Randall liked hunting and fishing and for many years was a member of a hunting club with cousins Greg and Bill Ford and many other hunting buddies.
But Randall’s great passion was turkey hunting-whether on his father-in-law’s land in Marshall, Arkansas with brother-in-law Dennis and Danny, or in Tennessee with cousin Greg and friend Don. No turkey could resist Randall’s call.
Randall was a fine man, exemplary, and although he will be missed dearly, we look forward to seeing him again, for he was a Christian.
