Heather Elizabeth Piazza

Listen to Obituary

A uniquely creative and talented free spirit, Heather Elizabeth Piazza, passed away on September 22, 2026. Born in Little Rock on February 22, 1949, to Sam and Frances Piazza, she was little sister to big brother Chris and big sister to younger brother David, both of whom she adored.

Heather graduated from Hall High School in 1967 and Henderson State University in 1971. At Henderson, she excelled on the tennis team and the swim team. After graduation, Heather could be found playing tennis tournaments around Little Rock and often walking away with a trophy. She was regularly sought after as a mixed doubles partner. Her brothers reluctantly conceded she was the best athlete in the family.

After teaching art at Oak Grove High School, Heather began a 23-year career at the Gain Program in Little Rock helping mentally challenged individuals integrate back into the community. She had a wonderful gift as a caregiver, accompanying her clients to doctor’s appointments, making sure they didn’t miss medications and turning their trips to the grocery store into something to look forward to. Often, she was the only consistent part of their lives.

Heather’s dedication to people was mirrored by her kindness and devotion to her beloved pets. She pampered many beloved cats over the years and was especially attached to her dog, Tina, whom she inherited from her brother David. Tina often rode shotgun in Heather’s car as she ran errands and visited friends and family.

To be on Heather’s Christmas list was both a treasured and dreaded experience for those close to her. She collected an array of truly quirky gifts each year and delighted in finding just the right person to give them to, especially her three nephews whom she adored.

Heather was preceded by her parents, her brother David and her beloved nephew Sam Piazza. She is survived by her brother Chris (Melody), nephews Jason Piazza (Anna) and Alex Piazza. She also leaves behind her close friends Pat Piazza and Tansil Anthony.

A memorial service will be held at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home (8801 Knoedl Court) on October 13, 2026, at 11:00. There will be a short visitation prior to the service at 10:30.

If thinking of Heather brings a smile to your face, consider making a donation to the Pulaski County Humane Society or an animal shelter of your choice. It would be a wonderful way to honor her love of animals.
