Herbert Wayne "Herbie" Porter

Listen to Obituary

Herbert Wayne Porter, lovingly known as Herbie to many, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 60 while making his way home after spending the day doing something he loved- fishing with Gaylen.

Herbert Wayne had a love for the simple things that made life so special. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering with anything and everything, watching old western movies, a Nascar Sunday, drag racing and talking classic cars, specifically anything Mopar. He tended to be a quiet, easygoing man for the most part, but if you got in his sights for a good joke or prank, it was guaranteed to be remembered and talked about repeatedly.

On March 27, 1987, he married the love of his life, Sherry (Lingelback) Porter. Together they built a life and family after welcoming their children, Dominique and Dillon. Herbert prided himself on being a wonderfully devoted husband, father and provider.

Herbert Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Betty (Fisk) Porter; his in-laws, Horace and Judy (Jones) Lingelback; and his niece, Nova Jordan.

His memory will live on through the love of his life, Sherry; his daughter, Dominique Phillips (Wayne); his son, Dillon Porter (Hailey Toland); his sister, Cindy Jordan (Thomas); his brother-in-law, Clint Lingelback (Monica); his nieces and nephews, Tristan Johns (Kyle), Wesley Jordan (Lindsay), Cheyenne Jordan, Arron Merriott (Chelsea), Jessica Lingelback, and Callie Orrell (Cody); and a whole host of great-nieces and nephews, extended family members and wonderful, lifetime friends.

Although our hearts are breaking from the loss of our Herbie, we find comfort in knowing that he was welcomed home with big, open arms by his parents and his Lord God. We will continuously long for the day we will see him again.

Pallbearers will be Gaylen Porter, Tony Porter, Wesley Jordan, Thomas Jones, Chad Smith and Darren Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Moore, Ed Kessaw, Wayne Murders, Jerry French and Wesley French.
