Herbert E. Schmitz born August 13, 1942 passed away April 5, 2025 at the age of 82.He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Cleo Harris and Charles Schmitz. At age 7 when his mother passed he was raised by his uncle and aunt, George and Myrtle Harris.
He worked for Holbert’s Rebuilders for 25 years while serving in the Army National Guard, served in the Navy for 2 years and retired from the Arkansas National Guard, Camp Robinson ending his 32 year career having served in two foreign wars,Vietnam and Desert Storm.
His family was his life, he was so proud of them all especially all his special grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Freeman Schmitz, son Brent Schmitz (Cayla), daughter Heather Kret (Jeremy), grandchildrenRiley Kret, Kyle Kret, Sierra Lankford (Anthony), Kinsley Schmitz, Wyatt Schmitz,Adalynn Irwin, Raleigh Irwin, Chenae Irwin, Isaac Irwin, great grandson Malachi Irwin,nephew Christopher James, cousin Esther Harris, numerous specials friends and family. He was preceded in death by Lou Parker (mother-in-law), Linda James (sister-in-law) and Tommy Harris (cousin).
A visitation will take place at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 5pm-7pm. Funeral service to take place at 11am Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are Ray Smalling, Harry James, Douglas Hamilton, Jimmy Smith, Dale Moody, and Wayne Ridgeway.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to America Diabetes Association (https://diabetes.org/) in honor of his granddaughter or the Alzheimer’s Association (https://donate.brightfocus.org/).
