HOMER LEE MOORE, 88, went to be with Lord Jesus on October 5, 2024. Homer married the love of his life, Doris June Hines Moore, on August 10, 1962, and she preceded him in death 54 years after they married. Winnie and Homer B. Moore, his parents, predeceased both Homer and June. Homer is survived by their two sons, Jeffrey H. Moore (Leslie), Gregory L. Moore (Natalie) and six granddaughters: Laura Beth Hudson (Chase), Mary Catherine, Abigail, Adrianna, Audrie, and including great-granddaughter Sutton Kate Hudson, by his sister, Bonnie Chadick (Porter dec.), and the Chadick family: Nancy, Steve, David and Christopher, by his brother, Mike Moore (Charlsie), and their family: Kelly Reed, Jon (Mollie), Isaac, and Eli, and by his brother-in-law, Billy R. Hines (Vickie), and the Hines family: Kiley, Cameron, Lesley, and Hannah.
Born and raised in Stuttgart, Arkansas, Homer earned his college degree in 1958 at then Ouachita Baptist College, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army having served in the R.O.T.C. and was honorably discharged, 1st Lieutenant. While completing his commitment to his country, Homer began his business career as an entrepreneur, married, started a family, and continued all of those pursuits during his lifetime. In Grenada, Miss. in 1965 he began managing the retail store for Sherwin Williams Paint Co. and ultimately transferred in 1968 to Little Rock as manager for the central Arkansas store located in downtown. Before retiring as District Manager, his employer honored him as District Manager of the Year Southwestern Division. Homer at his heart was a special kind of salesman. His love of others showed as he believed his service in supplying others would make them happy in life or in business. Whether selling paint, wallpaper, or floor-coverings, his customers acquired something fresh and new for their joy and pleasure.
Homer served as deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church, a member of various committees, song-leader for the young married couples, and member of the sanctuary choir all after moving his family to Immanuel in 1971. The final service and one that brought him joy, particularly, came after he retired from business life; he served in the Food Pantry along with many of his friends. In retirement, he also dusted off his acting abilities from high school and college and acted in one play in Little Rock, and he served in the Standardized Patient program at UAMS used for training medical students. He loved acting. He loved people, and he loved being with them, always a joy to be around at home, at work, or at play.
His funeral will be at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct., Saturday, 10:00 a.m., October 26, 2024. A visitation will be held the night before, Friday, October 25, 2024 at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Food Pantry – Immanuel Baptist Church, https://ibclr.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/597/responses/new, or the charity of your choice.
