Howard N. "Flukey" Chapman's Obituary

Listen to Obituary

On March 26, 2026 at the age of 87, The Heavenly Father called His son Howard N. Chapman "Flukey" of Alexander home to be reunited with his sweet momma and 8 siblings. A native of North Carolina, he fell in love with both his wife Betty and the state of Arkansas while stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base.

Deeply devoted to "The family he didn't deserve" as he would say, Howard was blessed with four children: Reba Strong and husband Otto, David Chapman, Sharon Sewell and husband Jennings, Debbie Nalley and husband Matt; grandchildren: Courtney Hieronymus and husband Dan, Clint Sewll and wife Hannah, Austin Armstrong and wife Lieu, Kelsey Chapman, Brandon Strong, Joseph Nalley, Cole Chapman and wife Ellie, Elizabeth Mukhitdinov and husband Shakhryorkhon (Shak); great grandchildren: Zach Hieronymus, Zane Hieronymus, Brody Hieronymus, Abigail Hieronymus, Kaylee Sewell, Zaine Sewell, Oliver Sewell, and Ellis Chapman.

To know Howard was to know his heart was with his family, but you would find him in the deer woods in Dallas County, AR, Ozark County, MO, or fishing at Lake Ouachita and Harris Brake. If you were favored, he would place you on the deer stand where the biggest buck was spotted or on his secret brim fishing holes. He enjoyed friendly competition between him and the grandkids to see who could catch the biggest fish. Legend has it, he never lost.

Howard was an active member of Kentucky Baptist Church until he became home bound. He could be found sitting on the back pew relishing the love and hugs from his church family, and talking endlessly about his grandkids, fishing, guns, hunting, or, if you were lucky, current events and politics. He had a heart for the spreading of the gospel, helping people in need especially children, and supporting missions. He drove the church van for a time to ensure the children in the community had the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The family extends special thanks to those who visited and called him at home bound nursing home, prayed for him, and loved on him. We appreciate all the staff at Amberwood Health and Rehab who lovingly and patiently cared for our dad and our family until he went to be with his Lord.

Throughout Howard's life he had many loyal and devoted friends. Those who saw past his loud opinionated personality, gruff exterior, and "thrifty" ways to the man's heart. These friends were beyond patient, giving, and supportive. We can not mention them all, but want to thank each of you for all the joy, purpose, and fun you brought into our daddy's life. We would greatly appreciate any and all the stories you would like to share. We know our dad had a "colorful" life!

To honor Howard's wishes, there will be no funeral, but you may contribute to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or The Billy Graham Association.
