Hubert Spann

Hubert Ellis Spann went to be with the Lord August 03, 2023 at Pleasant Hills Senior Living in Benton, Arkansas where he had lived for the past 6 months.

Hubert was born and raised in the Bauxite area where he went to school and played football for the Bauxite Miners. At the age of 17 he quit school to join the Marines and served in WWII in Guam and China.

After the war he met and married the love of his life, Alta Lee White and went on to become a pharmacist. They had 2 children, Carol and Greg.  He called Jackson, Tennessee home for 30 years where they were members of West Jackson Baptist Church. After his retirement from Parke-Davis, he and Alta Lee moved back to Benton to be close to their grandchildren, Bert and Deanna. They were members of First Baptist Church of Benton where he served as a teacher, deacon, and choir member for many years. He also worked as a pharmacist for 30 years at West Side Pharmacy in Benton.

Hubert was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Spann; mother, Euldene (Cole) Spann; 2 brothers: Clarence, Jr. and Clyde; and sister, Anneice (Spann) Hogue. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Alta Lee (White) Spann and a great-granddaughter, Hope Christine Spann.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Spann; his son, Greg Spann and wife Frances; his grandchildren: Bert Spann and wife Amanda and Deanna McGrew and husband Derek; his great-grandchildren, Cole Spann, and Landry and Logan McGrew.  He is also survived by his nephew, Dr. Ron Spann; sisters-in-law:  Pat Jenkins and Loretta (Spann) White; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins too many to mention.

Services will be Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Benton in Selph Hall.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM with the funeral service, officiated by Dr. Rick Grant and Rev. Bert Spann, following at 2:00 PM.  Burial with military honors will follow at Rosemont Cemetery in Benton.  Assisting as pallbearers are Cole Spann, Derek McGrew, Kyle McGrew, Tim Finley, Darryl Hardin, and Phillip Montalvo.  Honorary pallbearers are Bill Nutt, Dylan Nutt, Ron Spann, and Don White.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, Benton, Cross Bar C Cowboy Church, Benton or Lewis County Food Bank PO Box 522, Hohenwald, TN  38462.
