Imogene Marie Carter

Imogene Marie Hedrick Carter, 93 of Dardanelle died July 21, 2025. She was born in Cass County, Missouri, April 26, 1932. Her parents were William Henry Hedrick and Rosalie Littell. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Samuel Hedrick, husband Lamar Carter, and infant daughter Melissa Jean Carter.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her brother William Robert Hedrick, Yuma, Arizona, five daughters: Donna Didier (Don) Pocola, OK, Rita Tharp (Steve) Springdale, AR, Debbie Carter (Bob Hardin) Little Rock, AR, Angie Hearnsberger (James) Little Rock, AR, Ginger Chronister (Norman) Russellville, AR, and grandchildren: Allie McKenzie Denver CO, Robert Hixson (Kerri) Elkins, AR, Paul Hardin (Jessie) N Little Rock, AR, Hanna Plugge (Thomas) Fayetteville, AR, Will Hearnsberger (Taylor) Fayetteville, AR, Creed Chronister (Bailie) Russellville, AR & Freedom Chronister Russellville, AR, and a host of step grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were very special to her. 

Imogene was a loving mother and wife. She and Lamar owned a seeding and sodding company, Carter’s Lawn and Tree Service. She did the payroll, bid submissions, and bookkeeping while raising 5 daughters. At the same time she worked alongside Lamar taking care of the cattle farm which included raking hay (with her tractor) while he cut and baled. They also had a business cutting, baling, and selling wheat straw to Oaklawn Park. They enjoyed going to the horse races but found once they started the straw business they didn’t have time or were too tired to attend. 

Imogene was a lifetime member of the Gum Springs Yell County Extension Homemakers, Gum Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church and lately attended the Methodist Church in Dardanelle. She was a previous member of the Ivy League Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star when she lived in Missouri, following in the footsteps of her father who was a Mason. She thought the world of him. He was a deacon in the First Christian Church of Pleasant Hill, MO, a member of the City Council, a Scout Master, and was involved in various civic organizations. She had a rich ancestral heritage. Her 4th Grandfather Hedrick was the fife player under General Washington in the Revolutionary War as depicted in the painting Spirit of 1776 Yankee Doodle. Enough can’t be said about how diverse and special Imogene was. She was a wonderful cook, made beautiful quilts and embroidered pillowcases for gifts that are cherished by recipients. There wasn’t much she couldn’t do, but she considered her family to be her greatest accomplishment. She so loved her “girls” and they are all in agreement that she was absolutely the best mother ever. She will be greatly missed. 

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 26 at The Dardanelle Methodist Family Life Center at 2:00 P. M. Interment will be held at a later date at Chickalah Hill Cemetery.
