James “Jim” Alpha Coffman, 82, of Paragould, Arkansas, passed away April 17, 2026, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born December 7, 1943, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Donald Coffman and Doris Mellen.

Jim graduated from Broken Bow High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy in 1970 and dedicated nearly 45 years to the profession. Throughout his career, he not only practiced as a respiratory therapist but also shared his knowledge by teaching at WestArk Community College in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He later worked at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where he remained until his retirement in 2015.

He is survived by his son, Brian Coffman (Melissa); grandchildren, Ty, Dylan (Madison), and Hailey Coffman; brothers, Donald Venini (Denise), Pat Coffman (Cindy), Mike Coffman (Peggy), Mic Coffman (Melanie), Joe Venini (Wendy), and Steve Venini; and sisters, Vickey Jansen and Mary Lee (Mardell Lutz); adopted daughter Shawnda Stubbs (Clay); and special friend Betty Griggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Coffman and Doris Mellen, sister Dixie Allison, and his brothers, Jack and Rob Allison.

Jim enjoyed gathering rocks from the woods and creating waterfalls, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for nature and craftsmanship. He also took great pride in his work and deeply valued his career as a respiratory therapist.

A memorial service will be held on May 5, 2026, beginning at 3 PM and will be Located at Smith Family Funeral Home 2205 Airport Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Jim Coffman to Arkansas Children’s Hospital at archildrens.org/donate or mail to the Foundations offices 1 Children’s Way, Slot 661, Little Rock, AR 72202, or Abilities Unlimited, Inc., P.O. 3420, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71914.
