James Bennett Burrell “Jim” died unexpectedly on September 19, 2024. Jim was born in Pomona, CA on October 27, 1955 to Ben and Elizabeth Burrell. Jim grew up in southern California. He graduated in 1974 from Chino High School in Chino, CA. He received his bachelor’s degree in music from La Vern College.
Jim worked for many years as a bookkeeper in San Francisco. He moved to Benton in the late 1990’s after the death of his father, Ben Burrell. He resided next door to his stepmother, Margaret Burrell, who he watched out for like she was his own mother. He worked at Sears until its closing, when he began selling furniture at FFO, currently American Freight Sales in Bryant.
Jim’s passions were cats, politics, music, books and yard work. His love for music ranged from 70’s Rock and Roll to today’s Taylor Swift. He adored his cat, Marlena and fed many neighborhood strays.
He will be missed by his family, coworkers and dear friend and neighbor, Rick.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother. He is survived by his stepbrother, Kurt (Ramona) Holland; niece, Amanda (Collin) George; and great nephew, Maddox George.
Jim had an abundance of knowledge on many subjects. We enjoyed many conversations with Jim. His wit, compassion and presence at family gatherings will be greatly missed.
We will celebrate Jim’s life at a small family and friend gathering later this fall.
