James “Peanut” Harris Cooper, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 27, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life. Peanut was born in Newport, AR on July 4, 1944. James was an electrician and owner of several gas stations, automotive repair and body shops before retiring. He loved being outdoors, camping, duck hunting, racing cars and boats, riding four-wheelers, and being with his family.
He is survived by his children, Sherry Harper (Al); grandchildren, Iesha Porchay (Jalyn), Kiarah Abdullah (Tyler), Kamryn Abdullah (Mya), Dexter Cooper (Lauren), Sarah Cooper (Cody); great grandchildren, Sophia and Kenz’lei Butler; sister, Marylin Watson (Freddy); and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Ethel Cooper; son, James “PJ” Harold Cooper; siblings, Ruth Ann Thompson, Betty Riley, JC Cooper, and Curtis Cooper.
Visitation will be Friday, September 10, 2021, from 6-8 pm at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 11:00 am at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dowells Chapel Cemetery in Tuckerman, AR.
The family would like to thank you for the prayers, cards, flowers, donations, calls, text & kind expressions for sympathy shown following Peanut’s passing.
