Dr. James Roscoe Davis of Conway, Arkansas, was born on January 21st, 1931, and went to be with the Lord on October 21st, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eula Davis; his beloved wife, Shirley Showalter Davis; his sister, Coralie Wimpy; and his brother, Larry Davis.
He is survived by his son, Billy Davis, and wife, Terry, of Conway; and his daughter, Judy Weston, and husband, Tony, of Conway. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who were a cherished part of his life and legacy. He also leaves behind a special friend, Edna Lawrence, of Vilonia, AR.
Jim grew up in Jonesboro, AR. He was a studious young man with a love for learning. He met his wife Shirley, as a young adult, and they married a few months later. They relocated to California, where they soon started raising their family. He embraced his role as provider and protector. His strong work ethic served his family well, creating a lasting impression on his children.
Many years later, they returned to Arkansas, where he continued working in various occupations. Throughout those years, he and Shirley served and ministered in their local church.
In his 40's, he answered God's call to the pastorate. He felt strongly the need to be equipped for this new role in his life, so he began the process of completing his undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees. He went on to pastor churches in Missouri, and Arkansas, where he served faithfully. He was a man of faith and integrity. Prayer, studying God's word, and sharing Jesus with others, was woven into his everyday life...and so were westerns, Zane Grey books, and old black and white movies!
Though a quiet man by nature, Jim thoroughly enjoyed the loud, lively gatherings of his family. He treasured the occasions when everyone came together to share good food, laughter, fellowship, and the simple joy of being together.
James Roscoe Davis leaves behind a legacy of faith, learning, service, and love for his family. He will be remembered for his devotion to the Lord, his commitment to teaching God's Word, his lifelong curiosity, and the quiet humor and warmth that made family gatherings special. His life was a testimony to a faith lived over many years, and his influence will continue through the generations of family and all those whose lives he touched.
In his last year of life, as he needed more care, the last thing he would say as a family member walked out the door was, "Thanks for everything". Now, as he has walked through that final door, his children want to say, "
