James Michael “Mike” Dent, 71, of Beebe, formerly of Stuttgart, Arkansas, entered his heavenly home on July 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on December 8, 1953, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, Mike was the son of Frank and Joan Hildebrand Dent. From an early age, Mike lived a life defined by strength, loyalty, and love for others. In 1978, he met his soulmate, Carolyn Short, and the two were married on February 23, 1980. Their 45-year union was a testament to unwavering devotion and enduring partnership.
A proud veteran, Mike served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he began his civilian career with Mapco Gas Products in July of 1980, where he worked diligently until 1993. He later moved with his family to El Paso, Arkansas, and began a 22-year career as a contract mail hauler for the United States Postal Service with Pat Salmon & Sons, retiring in 2016. Mike was known for his work ethic, dependability, and quiet strength. Mike was a member of El Paso First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed hunting, trout fishing, and taking care of his yard.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Joan Dent; his brother, Hal Dent; his nephew, Cody Dent; niece, Amber Dent; his dear friend, Harold Hurley, and his best friend, his little chihuahua, Romeo.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and integrity. Surviving him are his devoted wife, Carolyn Short-Dent; his treasured daughter, Heather Dent-Spradlin, and her husband, Robert, whom Mike loved as a son. He was a proud and doting “Poppy” to his grandchildren, Jacie Hearn, Jackson Lindsey, Logan Spradlin (Brianna), and to his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Paul, and Jason Hearn, who brought endless joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Chris Dent, and his wife, Angie.
Mike will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quiet humor, and a deep love for his family. His legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
Visitation is Thursday evening, July 10th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W Dewitt Henry Drive, Beebe. The funeral service is Friday, July 11th at 2:00 p.m. at the El Paso First Baptist Church, 1589 Ridge Road, El Paso, Arkansas 72045, with burial to follow at Grissard Cemetery.
