James E. Smith

James E. Smith, 94, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023, at the Arkansas Heart Hospital-Encore. Born on May 22, 1929, in Bauxite, Arkansas, James was the beloved son of George Edward and Blanche (Price) Smith.

James served his country with honor and distinction as a proud member of the United States Army. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of duty and discipline that would guide him throughout his life. After his military service, James began his career as a pipefitter at Alcoa, where he dedicated many years of hard work and expertise.

Outside of his professional life, James had a vibrant social life.  He was an active member of the Bauxite Ole' Timers and the American Legion, organizations that allowed him to forge strong bonds with people who shared similar experiences and values. Additionally, James was a dedicated member of Northside Church of Christ. Going to church with his family brought him great joy and spiritual fulfillment.

One of James' favorite pastimes was going to deer camp. Although he did not go to hunt, he relished the opportunity to socialize with other members around the campfire.

James‘ passions in life was gardening. He spent countless hours tending to his garden, cultivating a bountiful harvest year after year. The produce he lovingly grew fed not only his own family but also to countless friends, neighbors, and the elderly saints in his church.

James was preceded in death by his precious wife of 71 years, Janice (Martin) Smith; parents, George Edward and Blanche (Price) Smith; grandson, Richard Threat; brothers: Gordon, John, Eugene, and Carl Smith; sister, Sadie Smith; and sister-in-law, Linda Smith.

James is survived by his sons: Kevin Smith, Ken Smith and wife Molly, and Jim Smith and wife Carol; daughters: Laura Smith and Vickie Smith. James also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Jennifer, Hannah, Leah, Sara, Lance, Kennedy, Donavon and Chad; several great-grandchildren; sisters: Linda Payne and husband Dale and Phyllis Erwin; brother Gerald Smith; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
