James H Garner

James (Jim) H. Garner, a great and honest man, passed September 16, 2023, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Batesville, Arkansas, on September 3, 1939, he was the son of Hubert and Nell Garner and brother of the late Margaret Barger.

Jim's life was a testament to his unwavering love for his family. He shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carol Turney Garner. Together, they created a legacy of love, dedication, and enduring commitment. Jim is survived by his two daughters, Wendy Perkins (Matt) and Kelly Mendel, who were the pride of his life.

His love extended to his grandchildren, Justin Honeysuckle (Callie), Alix Queen (Wes), Jay Perkins (Meg), Maggie LaRowe (Nate), Avery Daves (Ridge), and James "Bo” Mendel, as well as seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Each grandchild has followed in his footsteps, with a great sense of humor and conservative views. This made him extremely proud.

Jim was a man who embraced life with an inspiring passion. He approached everything he did with care, honesty, and persistence. This zest for life was always evident, whether he was duck hunting along the White River, where he grew up, or engaging in the pursuit of big game across the African plains or Mongolian mountains. Nature held a special place in his heart, and he shared his love of nature with everyone around him.

A gifted builder, Jim constructed everything from subdivisions to commercial complexes, but his true calling was crafting homes that were more than just structures. During his career, he served as president of the Home Builders Association for the state of Arkansas and Greater Little Rock. Yet, Jim's impact in life extended well beyond his work.

Jim had an incredible ability to connect with people, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know him. Jim was a man of contrasts, quick to offer a stern word of advice, and equally swift to give you the shirt off his back in your time of need. Jim Garner embodied the spirit of a life well-lived. His love for family and friends knew no bounds, and he never turned down an opportunity for a good time. His legacy is one of honor, passion, respect for life, and an unwavering love for people. The world has lost a remarkable man, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As Jim’s journey on Earth has come to an end and we miss him more than words convey, we know he is in a better place.
