His parents were Father Gerald Lee Lewis and Mother Anna Mae Turner. He was the third of four children. He moved to the state of Arkansas at a very early age into the Rose City community. He was a very hard worker and started working before the age of 12 sacking groceries at Rose City Grocery. This is also the place where he babysat the owner’s son, Jerry Jones, the now owner of the Dallas Cowboys. At the age of 12, Jim delivered newspapers from his bicycle. Jim graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1953. He was a Veteran and served in the United States Navy Reserves 1952-1953, United States Navy 1953-1955 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force 1956-1960. After retiring he was proud to volunteer at the North Little Rock Hays Senior Center for over 20 years as a water aerobics instructor. Jim served in many church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of which he was a member for over 69 years. He served on the High Council working with the Young Single Adults for 10 years. He truly loved working with the youth, of which he did for more than 20 years.
Jim had a passion for church, fishing, telling jokes, working at the Senior Center, and meeting friends for lunch, but his favorite activities were spending time with his family.
