James “Jim” Robert Stanton, a man whose life was marked by passion, perseverance, and an open heart, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born on September 24, 1949, in Urbana, Illinois, Jim’s journey was one filled with spirited determination and a heartfelt desire to engage with the world around him.

Throughout his lifetime, Jim held a variety of jobs, but it was his final role—working for the TSA at the Little Rock Airport—that brought him the greatest joy. There, he found purpose in interacting with travelers, exchanging stories, and lending a friendly face to those passing through. It was a fitting final role for someone who enjoyed connecting with people from all walks of life.

His personality was unmistakable—strong-willed, opinionated, yet invariably respectful. Jim embraced the belief that everyone deserved the freedom to live their lives as they chose. This openness and kindness resonated deeply with those who knew him and carried him through countless friendships and family ties.

A man of many interests, Jim enjoyed the outdoors, especially fly fishing. His love for travel and fine food enriched his life, but it was the moments spent with his beloved wife, Vicki Wirges-Stanton, that truly defined his happiest memories. Together, they created a treasured tradition of annual trips to Disney—something they looked forward to each year.

Jim was also a dedicated marathon runner, earning the proud distinction of qualifying for the prestigious Boston Marathon—a testament to his endurance and commitment. He completed numerous marathons with Vicki, including Disney marathons and races held across the country, collecting many medals along the way.

Jim is survived by his wife, Vicki; their children, Mindy Wirges (Amber), Seth (Erin), and Connie; and his cherished granddaughters, Marie and Sylvie. He is also survived by his siblings, Arleen Godshall (Phil) and Craig Stanton (Sue), along with numerous other family members and his dear friend, Whit Klein. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arland and Constance Stanton, and his sister, Karen Stanton.

Vicki would like to thank Jim’s caregiver, Curtis Felps, and the staff at Gentiva Hospice for their kindness and care. With their help, Jim was able to spend his final days at home in comfort and dignity.

Jim was a man whose presence enriched the lives of many—a father, husband, brother, friend, and confidant. He was a devoted family man who found great meaning in the relationships he built throughout his life. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends, and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
