James "Jim" Murphy, 65, of North Little Rock passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017. He was born March 12, 1952 in Valdosta, Georgia to Brantley and Myrtle Potter Murphy. He was retired from the Orange County Florida Fire Department after 35 years of service. He then worked as a nationally known trainer in the fire service. Jim served as a consultant to FEMA in the recovery after Hurricane Katrina. He helped develop software for the National Incident Management System. In 2014 he accepted the position of North Little Rock Fire Chief where he served until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kit Murphy; daughters, Laura Hebert (Jim) and Karen Warnock (Mike); grandchildren, Nicole Burruezo (Alex), Jordan Herbert, Katelyn Warnock and Pearce Warnock; great-grandchildren, Sophia Burruezo, Matthew Burruezo; siblings, Ed Potter, Carl Murphy, Bill Murphy, Kathy Roberts, David Murphy and Patty Harville; and nieces, Arian Clute (Chris) and Aubrey M.A. Morales. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Wayne and Rick Murphy.

A Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Lakewood United Methodist Church with a visitation prior to service at 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at the church.
