James Matthew Shelnut

James Matthew "Marty" Shelnut, 51 of Benton, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Matt was born in Little Rock, AR on July 30, 1973 to Randy and Phyllis Shelnut.

Matt is preceded in death by his mom, Phyllis Jean Shelnut; grandparents, James and Oneida Shelnut, Don and Juanita Major; and Baby Don.

Matt is survived by his wife, Sara Michelle Shelnut; dad, Randy Shelnut, (Linda Curtis); sister, Brandi (Adam) Storey; son, Jonathan Shelnut; daughter, Samantha Shelnut; step-sons, Austin and Zach; step-daughter, Jessica; grandson, Bo Bo; nieces, Ava, Ella, and Adi; and nephew, Zephaniah.

Matt loved helping his Pop Don with his sawmill. He also loved his profession as a welder before going on disability. In his off time he had a passion for hunting and fishing. This time of year was hunting but come spring was his greatest passion and that was fishing. He would sit for hours throwing a bait and reeling it in. Fish or no fish was fine as long as he was on the water.

Matt was a member of the Revolution Church in Benton. He loved to help his wife with Wednesday night dinner and even grilling dinner himself. He just enjoyed helping whenever he could.

There will be a celebration of life service Friday, November 15, 2024 at 4:00 pm at the Revolution Church. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Benton Funeral Home.
