Jamie Ann Shaw, 79, of Bryant died Friday, July 17 during a short stay at Alcoa Nursing and Rehabilitation in Saline County and following an almost year-long battle with cancer.
She was born on July 30, 1946 in the Fendley Community near Amity as the fourth of five daughters to Homer and Vangie Shepherd Buck. She attended Amity Public Schools and later graduated from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education.
She taught social studies and history courses for many years at Bryant High School and retired over a decade ago from Bryant Public Schools.
Jamie is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Vangie Buck, and two sisters, Doris Ross and Katie Wilson, both of Arkadelphia.
She is survived by her three children, Vance Walker (Karin) of Little Rock, Howard Walker (Keri) of Sherwood and Tammy Walker Golden of Glenwood; two sisters, Jeane Bell of Arkadelphia and Glenda Watson (Tim) of Malvern; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Ruggles-Wilcox Chapel at Smith Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Memorial services will follow at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a literacy or children’s charity of choice.
