On March 25th, the world lost a shining light when Janet Louise Daughenbaugh passed away peacefully at the age of 79 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Born on January 22,1947 in Avon, South Dakota, Jan had three older brothers - Frances (Carol), Gerald, and Richard (Lottie) and one half-sister Jerrie Mae Gosch.
Jan's life took a remarkable turn when she met her soulmate, Tommy Daughenbaugh, in Kansas City, Missouri. Their encounter marked the beginning of a profound love story that would span over six decades. Together, they created a warm and loving home for their two cherished children - Linda (Daughenbaugh) Durbin (David), and TW (Cheryl). As a mother, Jan poured her heart into nurturing her children, instilling in them values of kindness and resilience.
One of Jan's greatest joys was her role as a grandmother. She took immense pride in her grandchildren - Austin Appleby (Bailey), Lauren Daughenbaugh, and Jake Daughenbaugh. Each moment spent with them was a treasure, filled with laughter and love. The arrival of her great-grandchild, Peyton Appleby, further enriched her life and brought new joy to her already vibrant family dynamic.
Jan’s interests were as diverse as her personality. She found delight in playing bean bag toss, bingo, attending potlucks, as well as many other events at the local senior center and enjoyed spirited board game nights with family and friends. Her commitment to community service shone through her active participation in Catholic Church functions, assisting with church fundraisers and bake sales to include being one of the mainstays in putting on the annual Knights of Columbus Christmas party for persons with disability. Additionally, as an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Society she served as the Vice Queen for many years. Jan loved embracing her eclectic wardrobe, showcasing her unique sense of style while forging lasting friendships.
Traveling was another passion for Jan; however, it was the time spent with family during celebrations and holidays that she cherished most deeply. These gatherings filled her heart with warmth and joy — a true testament to the love she cultivated within her family.
Jan cherished every moment spent with Tommy by her side. Her greatest accomplishments lay not only in her support for Tommy but also in the unwavering love she offered to him but also to her children and grandchildren. She played an integral role in their lives, particularly during their formative years, providing guidance and encouragement at every turn. Her gentle demeanor left a lasting mark on those around her — friends and family alike will forever feel the impact of her kindness. Her nickname “Mom-n-Baugh” is a testament that many considered her to be a second mom. Her legacy is one of compassion, community involvement, and familial devotion.
As we gather to honor Janet Louise Daughenbaugh's memory and contributions to both her family and community, we remember a woman whose life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love and laughter. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, the memories we hold dear will keep her spirit alive in our hearts forever. Funeral services will be held as follows to celebrate Jan's life—a tribute to a remarkable woman who touched so many lives. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
