Jean Pate-Strickland, age 87, of Little Rock died Sunday July 28, 2013 at The Beebe Retirement Center. She was born June 16, 1926 to Bessie and Albert Smith in Plainview, Arkansas at the foot of Petit Jean Mountain.

Jean graduated from Plummerville High School in 1944. After graduation, she worked at Jacksonville Ordnance Plant during the war effort. When Pfeifers became Dillard's, she grew into the position as Senior Credit Manager of Dillard's National Bank. Along the way, she also served as President of both Arkansas Credit Women International and Arkansas Woman's Chamber of Commerce. After retirement and widowed by cancer, she found solace in another cancer survivor spouse, Karl Strickland. They were happily married for ten years.

She loved to sing and was active in the choirs of Calvary Baptist Church of Little Rock, the Phoenix Baptist Church, and later at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering at PHUMC; where she served as Chair of St. Stevens Society and Chair of Communion at Home Committee and also, St. Vincent Medical Infirmary. She became president of their Auxiliary during 2003.
