Jeff A. Ramsey

After more than four decades of serving his state, protecting his community, and standing beside countless people in their time of need, Senior Corporal Jeffery Alan Ramsey’s watch ended on August 7, 2026.

Born October 28, 1960, in Benton, Arkansas, Jeff was the son of Bill and Sarah Ramsey. His career in law enforcement began with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office before he went on to serve 33½ years with the Arkansas State Police. Known by his call sign A81, Jeff wore the badge with pride and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him and those he served. After retiring from the State Police, he continued serving his community as Chief of Police in Haskell for a year and a half.

Jeff was a protector by nature and someone others knew they could count on. He took his responsibilities seriously and was a mentor to many young officers, teaching not only the job, but what it meant to be a good cop. Beneath his strong presence was a generous heart, a sense of humor, fierce loyalty, and a genuine concern for others. His brothers in blue became an important part of his life, and the friendships he formed through his years of service remained long after assignments changed.

Above all, Jeff took great pride in being a father. His children meant the world to him, and he did not take the privilege of being their father lightly. He was devoted to his mother, siblings, adopted children, extended family, and close friends, always making sure the people he loved knew they mattered.

Jeff loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, where he especially enjoyed his Men's Bible Study and Sunday School class. He spoke openly about his relationship with Jesus and was at peace with the promise of Heaven.

Away from the badge, Jeff enjoyed Conway Twitty and Alan Jackson, keeping his lawn (and sometimes his neighbors' lawns) mowed, cheering on the Razorbacks with pizza from Larry’s Pizza in Haskell, and spending time at the casinos. He also had a bucket list he was working his way through, and the only thing he didn’t get to cross off was trying out the new Buc-ee’s. Jeff loved him some Buc-ee’s.

Jeff is survived by his children, Morgan Ramsey and J. Alan Ramsey; his mother, Sarah Ramsey; siblings, Rocky (Gina) Ramsey, Robin (Gary) Ramsey Pelton, and Michael (Sherry) Ramsey; adopted children, Sarah, Ashley, and Tim Tate; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and close friends. He will also be deeply missed by his brothers in blue, and by the many people whose lives were touched by him.

He is now reunited in eternity with his father, Bill Ramsey; and grandparents, C.R. and Lottie Bell Statler and James and Willie Mae Ramsey.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Smith Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St., Benton. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Spring Creek Baptist Church, 19200 I-30 Frontage Rd., Benton. Burial will follow at Mt. Harmony Cemetery.

Pallbearers are J. Alan Ramsey, Gary Adams, Ryan Jacks, Greg Church, Tyler Hamilton, and Evan Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Will Bearden, Michael Ramsey, Rocky Ramsey, and Brandon Blaylock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CARTI, the Arkansas State Police Foundation, or Spring Creek Baptist Church.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for Jeff, especially the ECMO team at UAMS. Their skill, compassion, and dedication throughout his care will never be forgotten.

Jeff’s watch may have ended on August 7th, but the impact on the lives he touched and the example he left behind will remain.
