Jeffery Wood, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on September 21, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on January 24, 1955, Jeff dedicated his life to his family and community, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
After graduating high school, Jeffery made his mark as a grocer and store manager at Safeway and Harvest Foods, then later retiring from the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. His warm personality and dedication were evident in every interaction, reflecting the values he held dear. He instilled these same values in his family, often expressing his love for them with heartfelt words before ending a phone call, always reminding them he loved them, and to "tell the girls I love them too."
Throughout his life, Jeffery demonstrated a profound commitment to youth sports, dedicating over two decades to coaching baseball and peewee football. He was well-known in the community for his selfless actions; if parents were unable to transport their children to games or practice, he would drive around to pick them up, ensuring that every young athlete had the opportunity to play.
His community service extended beyond the field, as he proudly served on the Glen Rose School Board. Jeffery was also a member of the Moose Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason, further underscoring his dedication to serving others and contributing to the community.
Jeffery is survived by his loving sons, Jack (Dedra) Wood and Dustin Wood; along with his beloved granddaughter, Gabbi; and many grandchildren. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law, Carol Wood; and his nieces, Sandy (Scott) Houpt and Tammy (Danny) Mills; as well as his very close friend who held a special place in Jeffery’s life and heart, Mark Davis. Their memories continue to live on through the legacy of love and generosity that Jeffery imparted to those around him.
Jeffery was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Denise Wood; his parents, Phillip and Gladys Wood; and his brother, David Wood; who were awaiting him with open arms.
The family would also like to give a special thank you to Christy Pogue, who not only took care of Jeffery’s home, but helped take care of him as well.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Traskwood Cemetery, located at 620 W. Main St., Traskwood, AR 72167, for family and friends to gather and celebrate the remarkable life of Jeffery Wood and to honor his enduring spirit.
