Jeffrey Jones

Jeffrey Todd Jones, affectionately called JJ was born in Dallas, Texas December 6, 1969. He attended schools in Dallas, Colleyville and Longview, Texas and graduated from Northeast. He attended the University of Arkansas Little Rock and passed away on July 19.

Jeff had a really keen wit and mischievous smile that added to his special charm. An avid athlete he played football, basketball, soccer and enjoyed skiing, swimming and pitching horseshoes. He loved music and played the piano, bass and electric guitar. He was an artist who worked in the abstract but could also draw portraits. He liked traveling and had just returned from New Orleans. From New York City to Florida, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon to Galveston Bay, and Seattle where he was planning his next trip. Some of his favorite spots were San Diego, the Bahamas, the Yucatan and Caribbean of Mexico and Europe. He became a Roman Catholic with the influence of his grandmother, Mary Bailey while in the military.

His passion was operating heavy equipment and often would say that he could pick up a dime with his equipment's bucket as a finish grade operator. He liked the largest machines. "The bigger the better."

With the advent of 911, he volunteered for the Army National Guard to serve and protect our Homeland. Called to active duty, with the first contingent of troops, he served with 1st Calvary 39th Brigade 1st 206 Bravo Company, throughout Iraq as a forward observer from Taji, Camp Cooke, the Green Zone, Mosul, El Nassariya, Balad, Sadr City and Fallujah, Tikrit and other areas during his tour. Like so many who entered the country, he was resourceful in scrounging for scraps to protect their humvees and barracks and outdated weaponry including their Russian rifles.

Jeff is survived by his mother, Sheila Jones, his father, Michael of Dallas, and his two beautiful daughters, Elizabeth and Ashley Jones of Sherwood. When he left for combat, he had their initials embellished on his forearms so that whenever he needed a hug, they would be right there. He always said they were his heart and that he loved them so much. He was a disabled veteran from Iraqi Freedom with a disability rating of 260%.

He will be missed by his Great Aunt Lucille Flaherty, Dallas, his two closest cousins that he grew up with and were more like brothers, Richard Bailey, Dallas, and Michael Moore, Fate, Texas and so many other family members and friends.

A Celebration Of Life will be held soon. For information call 501-834-7300.
