Jessie Hare

September 5, 1943 — September 4, 2012

Jessie Hare

Jessie Larry Hare passed away the first week of September, 2012, at his home in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born September 5, 1943, in Magnolia, Arkansas to Byron and Lillian Chisholm Hare. The early years of his life were spent in South Arkansas, and he briefly lived in McComb, Mississippi, before graduating from Emerson High School in Emerson, Arkansas. Following graduation he returned to Mississippi where he attended college before joining the United States Air Force.
He was a decorated combat veteran during the Vietnam War period serving in Southeast Asia as a Para Rescue specialist in the Aerospace Recovery and Rescue Service of the Air Force engaged in the rescue of downed pilots. He helped to save many lives and also participated in other missions that remain confidential to this day. During his service he was also stationed in Ohio and Florida.
He returned to Arkansas where he married Dana Chambers of Magnolia. He worked for Haliburton and Schlumberger before beginning a 20 plus year career transporting hazardous materials for Wheeling Pipeline and Miller Transporters, Inc. He and his family lived in Little Rock, Shreveport, Louisiana, and later Magnolia. Jessie was a member of First Baptist Church in Magnolia and a member of the American Legion.
He enjoyed dancing, Bluegrass and Polka music, and was also an avid supporter of the University of Arkansas athletic programs. Jessie also enjoyed traveling, politics, and simply visiting people. No one was a stranger to Larry Hare. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed. Our great consolation is the faith he had in Jesus Christ, a faith that grew even stronger in his later years, which gives us the promise of seeing him again in a glorious reunion.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, he is survived by his former wife, Dana Chambers of Magnolia; son, John Hare and wife, María of Wylie, Texas; brothers, Gerald Hare and wife, Martha of Little Rock, Don Hare and wife, Connie of Victoria, Texas and Chris Hare and wife, Jerrie of Russellville; nephew, Geary Don Hare and wife, Martha of Edna, Texas; niece, Melissa Machacek of Vanderbilt, Texas; and nephews, Stephen Hare of Little Rock, Ritchie Hare and wife, Katy of Russellville, and Benjamin Hare of Russellville.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 13 from 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel of Little Rock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by interment with Military Honors at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
