Jimmie Hurst

Jimmie Hurst, 95 of Anderson, IN (formerly of Benton, AR and Breckenridge, CO) died peacefully on Thursday, October 5, 2023, one day short of her 96th birthday.  She was born October 6, 1927, to Retha and James Coyle of Memphis, TN.

She spent her early years in Memphis and Little Rock, AR where she graduated from Little Rock's Central Highschool.  It was in Hot Springs where she met her husband of 55 years, Wilson B. Hurst.  They were married on March 24, 1945.

While living in Benton and raising her youngest children, Jimmie was a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service. She developed a passion for oil painting.  Later in life, she enjoyed traveling the world seeking adventure while visiting museums of her favorite artists.  

Her greatest accomplishment was raising her seven children to be independent and courageous individuals. She provided a loving home that was never short of entertainment and excitement.  She will be remembered for her beautiful and sometimes mischievous smile. Her fun-loving nature and sense of humor was infectious. Her crazy antics and amazing stories have provided her friends and family a lifetime of wonderful memories.  

She is predeceased by her husband, Wilson B Hurst and her son, Jerry Hurst. She is survived by her six children, Vicki Gilpin, Randy Hurst, Cheryl Hill, Kimi Hurst, Lisa Hurst and Jon Hurst; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson.

The celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday October 12, 2023, with Tony Ellis officiating in the Smith Family Funeral Home in Hot Springs, AR. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Jimmie will be laid to rest at Cutter Morningstar Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
