Joan Erwin

Listen to Obituary
Joan Bailey Erwin, 85, of Little Rock, passed away May 25, 2017. Born in Arkabutla, Mississippi to Oris Franklin Bailey and Katie Darby Bailey, she attended Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faithful Servants Sunday School Class. She graduated from Clarksdale High School in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Joan was a pre-school teacher for over 40 years at First Christian Nursery School and St. James Learning Center. Children loved being around her and she loved being with them. She was an amazing cook and turned her talents into a catering business, hosting both small and large events. She was the best grandmother ever and quite a cheerleader for her grandchildren, never missing any of their events. Joan loved sports; she and Lew Elmore went to the SEC finals for ten years. She also loved Oaklawn. She would write to her State Representative every year for passes.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wallace Erwin (her soul mate for life who she met when in the 8th grade); daughter, Kate Frazier (Bo) of Little Rock; son, Wally Erwin (Georgia) of Maumelle; and grandchildren, Bailey Frazier-Whaley (Zac) of Houston, Texas, Blake Saunders Erwin of Maumelle, Sarah Kathryn Frazier of Chicago, Illinois and Madelyn Leigh Frazier of Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Frank Bailey.

Joan's family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the entire staff of Hospice Home Care for their care and compassion.

Services will be held on Tuesday, May 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church's Merry Makers or to Hospice Home Care.
