Joe Arnold Isom,
How do you summarize the life of a man that lived 92 years as a person of faith, honor, dignity and moral character? Our Husband, Daddy, Papaw.
He lived out the principles set forth in the Bible. He honored his parents. He was a devoted husband and father. He helped others using the skills and means available to him. From building to furnishing basic needs like food. He was a proud Marine veteran serving his fellow man. Joining the Marines at age 19, serving 13 months on the front lines. He proudly wore his Korean Veterans hat everywhere.
Anyone that knew him spoke highly of him and the life he lived.
But most of all, he loved his Heavenly Father. He never wavered from his faith, even being called “preacher” by his fellow Marines. He became a Christian at 16 in the tent that would become Crystal Hill Assembly of God. He lived his faith quietly but steadfast until his last day on earth.
Nothing made him happier than being with his family. Everything he did was for his family. A simple man but a giant of a man in our eyes. Was he perfect? No. But to his family, he was pretty darn close.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 71 years, Winnie Rhea Isom. In his last years, he lived to take care of her. His daughters, Donnas McGinley (Dave), Janice Newman (Terry). Four grandchildren, Brandon McGinley (Kristen), Bethany Steele (Marcus), Daniel Newman (Kayla), Samuel Newman. Eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and another on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents and all of his 6 siblings.
Right now, our Daddy is seeing all of his family and friends that went on before him and he will be at the gate to welcome those of us left behind. What a glorious day that will be. But most of all, he is walking with our Savior Jesus Christ.
Daddy, you can hang up your carpenters’ apron, put away the tractor. No more need for the walker and oxygen tanks. You are at rest and your toils are over.
A life well lived. “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2024, with services 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 15th both at Crystal Hill of God Church.
