John Henry "Papa John" Horton

John Henry “Papa John” Horton, age 85, of Bonnerdale, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

He was born on April 18, 1935, in Kilgore, Texas, the son of Henry Hudson Horton and Clemmie Lee May Horton. On August 10, 1958, he was married to Shirley Anne Mizell, who preceded him in death on May 21, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, James Dean Earl Horton; his parents; one brother, Ben Horton; and two sisters, Wilma Moore and Jo Gregory.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, John Daniel and Melissa Horton of Royal and Jimmy Horton of Bonnerdale; two daughters, Crystal Gayle Horton of Hot Springs and Debbie Lynn Horton of Bonnerdale; five grandchildren, Shelbi Danielle Horton, Rachael Ann Horton, John Henderson Shepherd; Patience Shepherd and Brandi Deaton and her husband, Donnie; two great-grandchild, Blaine Deaton and Naomi Deaton, and one great-grandchild on the way; one brother and sister-in-law, James “Duboy” and Diana Horton of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Billie Garner of Texas and Betsy and Ronnie Penny of Arkadelphia; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 26, 2020, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Brad West officiating.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM, prior to the services.

Social distancing directives will be in place with no more than 100 persons at any one time in the funeral home chapel, avoidance of physical contact and all attendees 10 years of age or older must be wearing a face covering to enter.

Interment will be in the Grants Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Horton, James Horton, Brad Newton, Curt Horton, Daryl Hickman and Greggory Clark.
