John L. "Johnny" Jones, Jr.

John L. "Johnny" Jones, Jr., age 90, of Langley, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 31, 1933, in Langley, the son of John L. Jones and Lona Mae Tedder Jones.  On October 7, 1956, Johnny was married to the love of his life, Betty Lou Whisenhunt, who preceded him in death on October 18, 2014.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tommy Jones; three sisters, Linda Jones, Syble (Miller) Kennedy and Lavelle Lowery; and his infant granddaughter, Sophie Elizabeth Jones.

Johnny was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, and was a member of the Daisy Free Will Baptist Church.  He owned and operated for many years Jones Grocery and Station and was a chicken farmer.  Johnny loved working outdoors mowing, weed-eating, which he was still doing even up until just a few months ago, and he especially enjoyed riding his trusty old tractor.  Following his retiring from the store and chicken farming, he worked for over ten years as the groundskeeper for the Glenwood Country Club.

Johnny will always be remembered as a man of few words, who loved his family with all his heart.  He was a wonderful husband, Daddy and Papa, who will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Robert and Wanda Jones of Langley, Shane and Jeannie Jones of Glenwood, Yvonna and Danny Gregory of Lodi and Melissa and Wayman Powell of Langley; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and a host of wonderful neighbors and friends.
